File Browser header

Most of the header buttons are self explainatory.

Navigation buttons

Move to previous folder (← Backspace).
Move to next folder (⇧ Shift← Backspace).
Move to parent directory (P).
Refresh the file list (. NumPad).

Create New Directory button

Create New Directory (I) creates a new directory inside the current one.

Display type buttons

These buttons let you choose how to display the file or datablock list:

Short list shows file names only.
Long list shows more detailed information.
Thumbnails shows thumbnails of the files. Specially useful for image, video or blend files.

Sort type buttons

These buttons let you choose how to sort the file or datablock list (always ascending):

Sort alphabetically
Sort by extension
Sort by time
Sort by size

Show hidden tick box

This control will display the hidden files if checked.

Filter button

This button enables filtering when activated. In that case, shown files are filtered by type, according to the state of the type buttons; otherwise all files are shown:

Show folders
Show .blend files
Show image files
Show movie files
Show script files
Show font files
Show sound files
Show text files
