Smoke Sim [BI]:

Flickering of Chunks of Smoke with Changing Light

One potential solution: Disable your Smoke Domain object's Material -> Lighting -> Light Cache

This occurs when the shadows of light pass through the low resolution of smoke. Even though it might seem like smoke is nice and smooth, it's calculated in larger "chunks".

Texture under BI Smoke Sim is Not Smoothed

You might have an object seen through the smoke and, at the first frame of your smoke sim, it begins to appear to lose anti-aliasing of texture. This can happen due to your Smoke Domain object's Material -> Transparency being set to Raytrace. The default is Z Transparency, so it's probably your fault for doing this, but there is hope.
