A few notes on the 'key features':.. ---B@rt 08:46, 10 November 2005 (CET) fixed. thanks! --Roger 14:37, 9 January 2007 (CET)

If you ask me, the entire story about the different roles in a design team and what they do, isn't really that appropriate on this page. It's also not specifically Blender-related, more industry-related. Although pointing out how these people could use Blender would add somewhat more relevant info. Maybe that part could get a page of its own? "What can you use Blender for" or something?

removed "who not for", added how they use, added examples, trimmed roles. All manuals up front have to say who their intended audience is, so that the reader identifies with the product right away (and so that authors keep in mind who they are talking to). Better now?--Roger 15:02, 9 January 2007 (CET)

[edit] Word Selection

As I've been reading the manual I keep running across situations such as the following. My question is, how important is it to fix these sorts of things and should I fix them inline and consider them minor changes? The alternative would of course be to open a discussion section for each instance with my suggestion for the edit.

Blender is an integrated suite of tools enabling the creation of a broad range of 3D content with the singular benefits of cross-platform interoperability and an incredibly small download file size. It is the most popular Open Source 3D graphics application in the world, and is one of the most downloaded.

Singular implies that there is only one benefit but we immediately cast this to a plural and go on to explain two major benefits. I would further suggest that the download size of the blender executable isn't really a major benefit these days as we're no longer working with 14.4k internet connections in most of the universe. If the rhetoric of the phrase is to position Blender as a ubiquitous standard; then I can think of a few different ways to say this more effectively (and probably more plainly.) Should I even be concerning myself with this sort of edit?

My suggested change:

Blender is an integrated application that enables the creation of a broad range of 2D and 3D content. Blender provides a broad spectrum of modeling, texturing, lighting, animation and video post-processing functionality in one package. Through it's open architecture, Blender provides cross-platform interoperability, extensibility, an incredibly small footprint, and a tightly integrated workflow. Blender is one of the most popular Open Source 3D graphics application in the world.

In general, with cases like these, I try to add on to what is already there. So, yes, now that Blender has multiple features and benefits, feel free to add on to the list... or just generalize about "broad spectrum of features" - it depends on the depth of the page in that particular feature. This is the Intro, so it would be the broadest possible generality.
Also, be careful about your assumptions about the reader. Much of the world IS still dealing with dial-up 14.4k modems, and old Win98 machines even today, so size matters:) My edits to your suggestion are above. I would consider all non-feature grammatical minor corrections, (if I remember to click the minor checkbox), and yes, just make them in-line. A lot of times, you have to say the same thing twice in a slightly different way for the reader to "get it", so some redundancy is fine. --Roger 17:23, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
