Hi Irve,

Regarding the linux install page:

I removed the illustrations because they only dealt with adding icons for gnome and kde rather than detailing the install procedure. Adding icons for a particular desktop environment/window manager is best dealt with by those manuals. I don't think there's much use to keeping the illustrations as we would be duplicating work done by gnome, kde etc.

The sections regarding the static and dynamic versions etc were removed because it was relevant to 2.4 rather than 2.5. All the other instructions I kept, I just rewrote, condensed and made them a bit more general.

I tend to think we should be writing the manual for what's offered on blender.org rather than what's offered by particular distros. That way we don't have to worry about writing distro specific instructions or maintaining instructions for multiple versions of multiple window managers. If the distro is providing out of date software (e.g. debian stable), then the blender package will be provided via the package manager.

At this point, I'm not inclined to restore the images because I don't think it adds anything to documenting the current version of blender (that's why I changed it after all :) ). If you think there should be more detail then I'd be interested to hear for what sections. Maybe some detail regarding unpacking the archive? e.g.

tar -xjvf blender-VERSION-linux-glibcVERSION-ARCH
cd blender-VERSION-linux-glibcVERSION-ARCH
./ blender
