MediaWiki skin compliant with layout and structure of www.blender.org. Preview can be seen at [1].

It is available for selection on user preferences. MonoBook skin should remain fully operational.

It would be great, if some mediawiki extensions were installed. Semantic MediaWiki and SemanticForms would be particulary useful.

Skin installation: Unpack the archive File:BlenderWiki skin.zip in skins directory in MediaWiki installation. This will fix two problems:

  • Improper XML nesting, when user is not logged in. This makes page footer look wrong, among other things.
  • Page navigation is now excluded from printing.

  • Contrast
    • remove explicit background colors in templates, use CSS
  • Page Width:
    • 640px is the suggested width of content. This is somewhat more narrow than standard
    • ✓ Images too wide on image pages (must be set in user preferences; aparently you can set default for new users, but for existing users, it must be changed). 640px seems to work fine.
    • Preformatted text overflows on right; provide means to create wide preformatted boxes
    • thumb|center does not work well

  • Fix broken wiki.blender.org content
    • Templates should work well with MonoBook and Blender (or any other, really) skin. Now this causes ugly colors and/or layout on some pages. It makes sense to make use of CSS classes.
  • Test on more browsers (MSIE7)
  • ✓ Hide top and menu on printable version
  • ✓ Bad footer when no user
  • ✓ Display all mediawiki portlets, not just navigation (like MonoBook skin). (now shows navigation and extras)
  • ✓ Special:Allpages is too wide. Aparently this needs to be fixed in MediaWiki itself. (fixed by adding a disclosure triangle for the whole right side)
  • ✓ Better constrasting under title / perhaps a different color?
  • ✓ No search for first-time visitors
  • ✓ Username and login strange when first arriving at site
  • ✓ Path is missing
  • ✓ Special:Preferences is too wide; arrange tabs horizontally
  • ✓ Colors are wrong when comparing article revisions
  • ✓ Full collapse of the right menu bar

  • when unhiding right side, the search box dissapears
  • ✓ title is messed up
  • ✓ sidebox margin is strange, hangs off right side a bit...
