Solaris x86-64 binary test (Oninoshiko 16:12, 21 May 2008 (UTC))

  • faceselectmode.blend: Alt-select does not work in JDS by default (or many non-GNOME WMs for that matter)
  • mandel-py.blend: Didn't have python installed (will test later)
  • Icetest.blend: it said to load nodelib.blend, didn't know how. (assuming this means somthing other then just opening it)
  • clothtest.blend: all items pass through eachother. (not sure what is going on here, but definitly not what I expected)

[edit] Proposal: Split this page?

I would like to propose splitting this page in a 'Simple' and 'Extended' version (the extended version might even be platform specific, so one for Windows). For someone looking for simple installation procdures this page it overwhelming. There are too many technical details (Python, an introduction to Gnome and KDE menu management, personal folder structure etc.). If no one objects I'll start splitting next week. -- (Reup (05-05-2009)

There are Linux specific items left here, I think. I would like to propose

Binaries for the Linux operating systems are provided for two different hardware architectures x86 (Intel and AMD processors) and PowerPC, and the choice between statically linked or dynamically loaded libraries.

The difference between the dynamic and the static binaries is important. The static binaries have the OpenGL libraries compiled in. This makes Blender run on your system without using hardware accelerated graphics. Use the static version if the dynamic version fails!

to be moved to http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Introduction/Installing_Blender/Linux although I'm not seeing diferent binaries in 2.49 version. Laskov 11:24, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
