[edit] How do I start using the game engine?

Blender is first and foremost a modeler/rendering software, with a GE to boot. These are the suggested steps you should take first before diving head in. It'll make your life a lot easier.

  1. Beginners Tutorial on using the Blender Game Engine
  2. Learn the Blender interface (download the blender guide and go through the manual to learn blender's features)
  3. Lighting/Modeling/Animation (this should be covered in the manual/WIKI, but practice makes perfect)
  4. Go through the GameBlender Documentation (explains logic bricks, expressions, python scripting for GE, GameLogic functions, etc). Play around with the logic bricks yourself and see how each one works.
  5. You can stop here if you want. But I suggest you keep going.
  6. Learn python
  7. Learn how python applies to the GE
  8. Learn GLSL for GE
  9. You should be set after all this
