[edit] INTRODUCTION
Blender is primarily a 3D modeling program; however, the devs were nice enough to toss in a game engine. If you want to learn more about Blender in general, please look here.
[edit] PERFORMANCE
Over the last couple of releases, the Blender Game Engine has seen a huge improvement in performance.
One very common question that shows up is “What is the max poly count that I can use?” Unfortunately there is no simple answer for this question. The maximum depends on a few different factors, such as the power of the computer running Blender and what else your game is doing. For example, lots of logic can bring down frame rates, meaning you won’t be able to put in as many polygons. But, to give people a rough idea of the limits of the Blender Game Engine, some people have reported over a million triangles (500, 000 polygons), but this is just geometry and with very strong machines.
[edit] FEATURES
The Blender Game Engine now boasts an impressive set of features. Here is just a short list of them:
- Python Scripting Support
- Easy to Use Logic Bricks
- Integrated Bullet 2.70 Physics Engine
- GLSL
- Softbodies
- Realtime Shadows
