This is a placeholder for my future more detailed Text, Font and DTP exploration in Blender. Anyway, many users are not aware of Blender's UTF-8 font power, where and its surprising usefulness in DTP (Desktop Publishing) fields. Here is interesting Blender DTP link you might want to visit:

Tattoo Font Graphics

There are many sites with free fonts, many of which you can use for reasons besides just writing. With Blender it's possible to also use special fonts for different maskings, textures, curves, etc. Here is one simple example how to make nice graphics with the free Tattoo font and nodes setup for softening the shadows. Character 'd' from Tattoo font set is converted into a curve with command ALT-CKEY (this step isn't necessary if you don't want to edit 'font')

In Linux, installing new fonts and path setting just isn't enough, you will need to update system font cache with a shell command:
$ sudo fc-cache
