In the upcoming 'UI release' whenever that will be, I plan to include a new default colour scheme, with consistent colour meaning across different editing types, so people can easily recognise various things in the interface selected and deselected. I have been using such a scheme myself for a few years now, and it makes a big improvement.

Currently in Blender, colours are used arbitrarily and inconsistently all over the place. This makes the interface harder to interpret at a glance since one must mentally process what more or area of the interface one is in, and then try and remember what the different colours mean. It's also missing out on a whole deeper level of meaning, created by a consistent visual language of colour. This can be useful to provide extra meaning in icons, for example, that isn't there currently.

Colour meanings:

Meaning Colour
Selected data Orange
Deselected data Black/greyscale
Time Light Green
Previsualised Editing Magenta
Keyframe Gold
Pose Light Blue
X axis, Y axis, Z axis Red, Green, Blue
