This page provides a basic guide to effectively searching the BlenderWiki and getting the results you want.

[edit] Simple Pointers

[edit] Try to avoid common words

Words such as the, a, that, this will generally not return pages. Because they are so common, they are purposely not indexed by the search engine, otherwise it would return every page in the Wiki! Also, try not to use words which are too generic for Blender, such as model, texture/texturing, animating and so on. Instead try specific words such as extrude, skinning, IPO curves and other specific words. Words such as how to and tutorial' also return mixed results, so trying multiple searches with and without these may give better results

[edit] Check the section

Don't get confused and end up on a developers page that discusses CVS Armature Modifiers when you were actually looking for a page on rigging. So when you get those search results , check the page name first.

Blender User specific pages begin with:

  • Manual/
  • Reference/
  • Scripts/
  • Tutorials/

Blender Developer specific pages use:

  • BlenderDev/
  • ScriptDev/
  • Requests/
  • Design Documents/
  • Competitive_Analysis/

And of course, if you're a writer, your pages have Meta/ in the name
